People who are thinking about buying a car with a personal loan have been urged to ensure they shop around for the best deal available to them.
AA Personal Loans' head Mark Huggins made the comment after the release of research by the company which considered the growing importance of environmental issues to motorists in the UK.
The study found that men in particular are beginning to take the environmental impact of their car seriously, while a growing number of people are considering buying a low emission vehicle in the next 12 months.
Commenting on the findings, Mr Huggins said: "Car buyers now realise that 'green' cars mean lean cars with better fuel economy and cheaper tax discs.
"As one third of car purchases are made using finance, people need to shop around for the best personal loan so that their green savings aren't lost in interest charges."
Previous research by AA also found that car insurance premiums in the UK rose by 2.4 per cent in the past quarter.
